Vehicle details

Vehicle history

RTW29 was delivered new to London Transport in 1949.  It was allocated to Tottenham Garage (AR) for use on route 41 (Highgate to Tottenham Hale and Ilford Station).  The bus remained in service for over twenty years, during which time it operated from eleven central area garages on many routes, including the famous route 11.  The vehicle ended its career working as a driver training bus at Stonebridge, a former trolleybus depot.

During December 1969, RTW29 was sold to a dealer, but was soon rescued and preserved.  After another change of ownership, it arrived in the Bristol area in 1973.  The new owner, Alan Hallpike, then undertook a major restoration, and between 1973 and 1981 the bus attended many rallies, and was one of the most admired vehicles on the circuit.

The current owner bought RTW29 in 1984.  It won awards at a number of events in the years that followed.

Current situation

RTW29 is on the road and will be out and about during 2009.  It was professionally repainted during August 2008.

Few RTWs are preserved, come and see RTW29 at our open day, or at one of the other rallies we'll be taking it to.
