Open day 2008

Vehicle rally and running day

Our open day 2008 took place on Sunday 10th August, run in conjunction with the Avon Valley Railway, repeating our highly successful formula for creating a day of transport nostaglia.

This year's event celebrated 100 years of Bristol buses in service.

A static display of buses took place at Brislington Park and Ride site (just off the A4 between Bristol and Bath), and free vintage bus services ran to numerous locations around the city and, for the first time, to Bath.

A free shuttle bus service ran to the Avon Valley Railway, where steam trains were running that also connected with boat trips on the river Avon.

Free connecting services ran to and from Bristol Temple Meads, Keynsham, and Bath Spa stations.

The weather was showery with glimpses of sun in between, and some passengers on open-top buses unfortunately got rather wet.  Most visitors appeared to greatly enjoy the day.

The Group would like to say "thanks very much" to all the members who helped out on the day, driving, conducting, catering, marshalling, selling programmes and assorted other important duties.  We couldn't have done it without you.

If you have any comments to make that will help us to plan next year's event, please let us have them by clicking here.
