Frequently asked questions

Q:  Why?

A: The best answer I've heard to this question is "if you need to ask at all, you just won't get it".

Q:  Can I hire any of your buses for my wedding?

A:  Unfortunately not, for legal reasons.  There are commercial operators who can provide vintage buses.  Try Bath Bus Company or London Bus Bristol if you're local.

Q:  Can I hire your buses for film work?

A:  Yes, depending on your requirements.  Contact us by e-mailing webmaster@bvbg.org.uk

Q:  How many miles to the gallon do they do?

A:  Between 10 and 15.  Not bad, considering some of them can carry almost 70 passengers, and a lot more fuel efficient than most modern buses.

Q:  Do you need a special licence to drive them?

A: This depends on when you passed your car test.  If you passed before the mid-1990s, only if you're carrying more than eight passengers, providing the passengers aren't being carried for hire or reward.  Otherwise, a full car licence (and a bit of practice) will do.  If you passed your car test after that, you need to get a provisional PCV (passenger carrying vehicle) licence.

Q:  What's your oldest bus?

A:  AHU803, which was built in 1934.

Q.  Is it difficult to get parts for them?

A:  It depends on the bus.  We have quite a wide range of spares in stock for certain types of engine.

Q:  I'm really interested in what you do. Can I join the Group?

A:  Yes, we'd love to hear from you.  Have a look at our membership information.
